In the combustion engine, a large part of the energy contained in the fuel is converted into heat. To prevent the engine from overheating and causing serious damage to the mechanics, the engine cooling system must effectively dissipate this heat into the environment. Part of the heat transported by the cooling system is used to raise the temperature inside the vehicle as required.
A perfectly functioning cooling system is a basic prerequisite for optimal engine operation. The right coolant makes a significant contribution to the reliable functioning of engine cooling in all operating and weather conditions. More Than Just a Coolant
Automotive coolants are a mixture of water and coolant concentrate. The ideal mixture ratio is 1:1 which corresponds to a coolant of -36\xb0 C.
The maximum possible frost protection of approx. -52\xb0 C is achieved with a mixture of 2:1 (concentrate : water). Pure coolant reduces the cooling efficiency by around 50% compared to the 1:1 mixture.
However, coolant concentrates also contribute to increasing the boiling point which protects the engine from overheating in summer. With a mixture of water and a coolant in a ratio of 1:1, the boiling point of the coolant is around 107\xb0 C.
Optimal Packaging Design
