Description

EMERGENCY LIGHTING TYPES
There exists several types of emergency lighting with many different functionalities, advantages and disadvantages:
Maintained
This type ensures the light is always on, which naturally uses more power. Maintained emergency lights are powered by the mains as part of the normal lighting arrangement in an area. When the power fails then it will continue to stay lit for a specified time, powered by the internal battery.
Non-Maintained
These are designed to turn on for the specific duration during the failure of the normal lighting arrangement, as such they typically use less power over the long term. The battery should have enough charge to remain lit for 3 hours or more.
Other types include Self Test, where the unit checks itself automatically to ensure that the battery and lamp in each emergency light are fully operational, as well as Central Battery option, where its power comes from one source somewhere within the building.
REGULATION COMPLIANT
All Bright Source products with emergency capabilities are compliant to BS regulation BS EN 60598-2-22 (specifies requirements for emergency luminaires for use with electrical lamps on emergency power supplies not exceeding 1 000 V), while the emergency sign products also meet BS 5499 (covers all safety warning sign, including fire safety signs and is compatable with the Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) Regulations 1996).
