What are Calciworms?
Calciworms are the dried larvae of the black soldier fly, a harmless species of insect which originated from South America. Nowadays, black soldier fly are present across most temperate climates in America, Africa, Asia and Europe. Dried calciworms are small, slightly puffed-up worms with a dark brown colour and a distinctly savoury aroma. They have a high protein and fat content, which makes them a fantastically versatile food for a wide range of bird species.
A Great Alternative to Mealworms
Mealworms are always a popular choice for bird feeding, but they can be an expensive treat for your feathered friends! Calciworms can be a great alternative as birds will love them just as much as mealworms. Just like mealworms, calciworms are a fantastic foodstuff that can be fed to wild birds and garden birds year round. They are particularly great during the winter months, when birds can find it hard to find a high-energy source of food elsewhere.

Calciworms can be used to feed a wide range of different species, including domesticated birds such as chickens and ducks, as well as other pets like lizards and even some fish.
