Description
A1 Lawn are experts in feel good grass, and we aim to satisfying the needs of those who aspire to own and enjoy a beautiful garden.
How to Recover a Lawn After a Hot Summer?
Give the grass a slight tug. If it easily rips out of the soil then unfortunately the grass has died and it will need to be reseeded.
If you have a hosepipe ban, check with your local councils as some have 28 day exemptions for watering newly sown lawns.
Aerate the lawn using a garden fork to puncture holes in the ground. This will do is help water get past the surface down to the root zone.
Our Autumn/Winter Feed will bring the lawn to a lush green state, and prepare it for the hard Winter months.
Water well if possible (or do it when rain is forecast).
Beware Annual Rye Grass
Many cheaper patch repair seeds include Annual Ryegrass which may grow fast, but only lives for a short time and does not come back every year, meaning you will need to reseed again.
Where we use Ryegrass, we only use Pernenial Ryegrass which is hardy, tough, quick to germinate, and also continues to grow all year, every year.
Only look for product that tells you what is in their seed blend, and make sure that blend does not include annual ryegrass. Beware of short-term savings for short-term grass.
A1 Lawn are certified by DEFRA, FERA & SASA.
How To Patch Repair A Lawn
Mow the area first, as you will have to wait a while before you can cut again.
Remove any debris from the patch & loosen the soil.
Apply our nutrient packed Pre-Seeder Fertiliser to help the grass seed build a solid root structure.
Sow the grass seed and work into the soil to improve germination and optimal results..
You can apply a light layer of top dressing to just cover the seed slightly, which will also help with bird take.
If no consistent rainfall is present, make sure to water the area for around 4-6 weeks, keeping the seeds moist.
Sowing A New Lawn
Dig the soil over to about 20cm and remove any stones and weeds by hand, then add topsoil if the soil is poor quality or uneven & rake the area to get a level seedbed. Add our Pre-Seed Fertiliser.
Sow at the recommended rate by hand or with a spreader., then rake the seed in so it is just under the surface of the soil.
Apply a light layer of soil to improve germination and deter birds, then compact the surface by foot or by using a roller.
Water well straight away and continue until established. Leaving the seeded area to dry out will delay the process.
Overseeding An Existing Lawn
We recommend using our Weed, Feed & Moss Killer.
Rake to remove any dead grass, moss and weeds and until the soil has loosened and is no longer compact.
Sow at the recommended rate by hand or with a spreader and rake the seed in so it is just under the surface of the soil.
Apply a light layer of soil to improve germination and deter birds, then compact by foot or by using a roller.

A Guide To Lawn Care Fertiliser
Fertilisers use numbers, such as 6-9-6 which represent the three main nutrients needed by your lawn: Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P) and Potassium (K) or NPK short. The higher the number, the more concentrated that nutrient is in that fertiliser mix.
Our New Grass Pre-Seed & Pre-Turf Fertiliser [6-9-6] aids germination and accelerates root development.
Our Spring Summer Lawn Fertiliser [10-4-4] boosts your lawn back to life & keeps it healthy through the warmer months.
Our Autumn Winter Lawn Fertiliser [6-5-10] keeps your grass healthy through the colder months.
