Description

Diverse Educators: A Manifesto, by multiple authors including myself (your contributor name) and in collaboration with educators across the education system, is a book that aims to capture the collective voice of the teaching community. This manifesto calls upon policymakers, educators, and stakeholders to recognize, reflect on, and take action to improve diversity, equity, and accessibility within education systems globally.

Published in collaboration with the University of Buckingham Press and available since 11th April 2022, Diverse Educators is structured around the Equality Act and written collaboratively to highlight lived experiences of educators of diverse Protected Characteristics, including Age, Disability, Gender Reassignment, Pregnancy and Maternity, Race, Religion and Belief, Sex, Sexual Orientation. The final chapter discusses intersectionality, highlighting that education is a system built by, for, and about white, straight, cis-gender men; to transform education so that everyone has access to equal educational opportunities requires consideration of all nine Protected Characteristics.

This ground-breaking text aims to provide practical and actionable solutions to educators across a wide range of professional contexts including practice, pedagogy, people management, policy and practice, response to and for a generation that increasingly demands accessibility, affordability, accountability, anti-oppressive, and trans-friendly policies, teaching, and learning practices.

Ahead of a report, I and our colleague will be out with later this year exploring what action steps should educators and stakeholders take now in pursuit of transforming education towards justice and diversity. Our contributor authorizes you to use these quotations from her contribution and other pages for all of your respective initiatives related to education. Please do let us know if this will assist with your objectives, we may then collaborate with you or rejoin, please, quote. We encourage teachers and educators everywhere, to reflect, debate, and engage on this issue that affects our collective mission to support children in a democratic system for a brighter tomorrow
