A favourite amongst bartenders for its smooth and rich qualities, Monkey Shoulder’s origins are traced back to William Grant, who constructed the Glenfiddich, Balvenie and Kininvie distilleries - three of Speyside, Scotland’s finest distilleries. In 2003, these malt whiskies were mixed to create an innovative blended malt that would not only be delicious and smooth served straight, but also perfect for mixing cocktails. Thus, Monkey Shoulder was born. Today, Monkey Shoulder comes from an epic blend of Scotch whiskies – batch 27. Catch whiffs of zesty orange, vanilla, honey and spiced oak and taste mellow vanilla with spicy hints; Monkey Shoulder boasts a smooth, malty and fruit character that’s bold enough to stand out in a drink yet balanced enough to not overpower cocktails. Get cheeky, get the party started and treat your tastebuds by adding a splash of Monkey to make a delicious Old Fashioned, Mojito, Espresso Martini or Monkey Colada. Rooted in malt whisky lore, Monkey Shoulder’s name references the malt men at William Grant, who turned malted barley by hand using large, heavy malt shovels. This painstaking process led to a strain injury nicknamed ‘monkey shoulder’, which thankfully no longer exists due to technological advances and improved working practices. The iconic whisky bottle design is complete with three brass monkeys - each representing one of the constituents of single malts whisky.
