PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS
For growing in our green potato planter bags
- we recommend layering, put approx. 4 inches of Jamieson Brothers potato planting compost in the bottom of the bag, then in a north-south direction place 2 potato tubers then cover with a further 4 inches of compost. in an east-west direction repeat this step. Once the potato haulm start to grow through the compost over with 2 inches of top soil over a period of time as they grow and until the compost is at the top of the bag, then leave the potatoes to grow on.
If you are growing in plots or trenches
- Each potato should be 35cm from the next, with rows spaced 70cm apart. Always make sure the eyes are facing upwards. Holes should be 15cm deep.
HARVESTING INSTRUCTIONS
The haulms of the potatoes will naturally die off once they have reached maturity, some but not all varieties flower once they have finished flowering they are ready to harvest. If groing in planter bags you may be able to feel the size of the potatoes at the size of the bag or but placing your hand into the compost.
First Earlies:
Harvest July end of August. We recommend that you eat these potatoes fresh. Boil and eat as new potatoes for that extra fresh taste. Storing first earlies not recommended.
Second Earlies:
Harvest August September. Dig up mature potatoes and use fresh. These can also be stored in a cool, dry and dark location like a maincrop.
Maincrop:
Harvest September end of October. Dig up mature potatoes and store them in a cool, dry and dark location. Potatoes can be stored for several months.

When harvesting, remove all foliage and small potatoes from the soil and discard, to avoid diseases on next years crop
Plant as soon as possible after purchase (dependent on soil temperature)
Keep in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place until planting
Keep free from frost as potatoes and their foliage are perishable
Water well in dry spells
